Research Residency:
Biowaste into Bioleather

In 2023, FarmLab hosted a residency with Argentinian material researcher Lara Campos, focusing on transforming agricultural waste into new biomaterials. During her time at FarmLab, Lara developed "kürbispapier"—a paper-like material made from pumpkin waste—and conducted experiments with corn husks and raw wool. She also explored natural pigment extraction from local plants like elderberry and indigo.

The residency combined material innovation with cultural heritage, including hands-on wool processing demonstrations to revive and share traditional techniques. The outcomes included new biomaterials, an educational fanzine on wool spinning, and a documented workflow for future exploration.

This project has been possible thanks to a grant from Culture Moves Europe.
