Research:
Raku Ceramics
With a legacy spanning two generations, FarmLab has a deep-rooted commitment to ceramic exploration, with a particular fascination for Raku and alternative firing techniques.
Raku pottery, originating from ancient Japan, involves a rapid cooling process that produces unique textures and finishes. At FarmLab, we also experiment with Western adaptations such as horsehair Raku and Obvara (or Baltic Raku), both of which use thermal shock to create distinctive surface patterns.
Our ceramic explorations rely on a specially designed wood-fired Raku kiln, used after an initial firing in our electric ceramic oven. These hands-on experiments blend traditional craftsmanship with contemporary methods, preserving and evolving time-honored techniques.
