Project:
ChickShaw

At FarmLab, even our chicken coop is a site for innovation. For our small flock of five chickens, we built a ChickShaw—a mobile coop inspired by the French rickshaw. This lightweight, portable structure can be easily moved by one person, allowing us to integrate the chickens into our regenerative farming practices.

By regularly relocating the ChickShaw around the farm, the chickens enjoy fresh grass while helping to fertilize and aerate the soil. This mobility prevents overgrazing and enriches new areas with nitrogen-rich manure. In spring, when the sheep move to their summer pasture, we bring the ChickShaw into the stable, where the chickens play a vital role in controlling pests—improving the sheep's health while closing natural cycles of care and cultivation.
